Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has thanked Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari for clearing a massive ₹573.77 crore project to boost connectivity at the Machilipatnam port. The funds are earmarked for constructing a six-lane road designed to link the port directly to the national highway network, specifically connecting the junction of NH-65 and NH-216 via the Machilipatnam bypass.

Naidu welcomed the move, stating on 'X' that the project highlights the central government's commitment to improving infrastructure for both existing and greenfield ports. "This new corridor will be a game-changer for connecting the hinterland to the coast and will help bring down the logistics cost for the local industries and exporters by a big margin." The Chief Minister assured Gadkari of all cooperation by the state government in executing the project as soon as possible.

For his part, Gadkari explained that this infrastructure investment is about more than just building a road; it’s about creating seamless freight movement. The plan includes not just the six-lane main carriageway, but also service roads, three flyovers, and a crucial overpass-cum-railway bridge. The aim is to reduce freight turnaround times significantly while combating traffic congestion around the area.

The initiative forms an integral part of the overall strategy of the state to emerge as a notable trading and manufacturing centre on the east coast through its seaborne infrastructure as an economic growth and employment generation engine.
