K. Annamalai on Monday launched his campaign in the Mylapore constituency in support of Tamilisai Soundararajan for the April 23 Assembly elections.
Addressing a rally, the former state BJP chief accused the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government of failing to fulfil key promises, particularly those related to Chennai’s infrastructure, storm-water drainage and waste management.
“The DMK had promised to build two lakh houses for fishermen across the state, including 200 in Mylapore,” Annamalai said, adding that the project has yet to take shape. Annamalai also alleged that the sale of ‘ganja’ had increased under the present administration.

Referring to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s roadshow in Mylapore on Sunday, he claimed it drew a strong and enthusiastic response from the public.
He expressed confidence that the BJP’s ‘lotus’ symbol would secure victory in the state, citing the candidate’s experience and commitment to development in the constituency.
Annamalai further asserted that Edappadi K. Palaniswami, general secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, would become Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after a decisive win.
