Preliminary findings suggest that the arms and materials may have been hidden for use in Naxal-related activities.

Security forces have recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation in the forested areas of Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, officials said on Thursday, calling it a significant achievement in ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.

The recovery was made by the 133rd Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) in the dense forests between Maspur and Gudrapal. According to officials, the ‘E’ Company of the battalion launched a special search operation from the Maspur camp on June 16, 2026, targeting remote and inaccessible areas.

During the operation, personnel noticed a suspicious spot in the forest and immediately cordoned off the area. A detailed search led to the discovery of a concealed cache of weapons and materials buried underground.

The seized items include one country-made BGL launcher, seven BGL guns, one 12-bore rifle, 37 rounds of 12-bore ammunition, approximately 15 metres of wire, and five ammunition pouches. All recovered materials have been seized following due procedure, and further investigation has been initiated.

Preliminary findings suggest that the arms and materials may have been hidden for use in Naxal-related activities. However, security agencies are conducting a thorough probe to ascertain when the cache was concealed and for what specific purpose.

Notably, Narayanpur district was officially declared Naxal-free on March 31, 2026. Despite this, security forces continue to carry out regular search operations in forested areas to prevent any resurgence of insurgent activity and to locate previously hidden arms and resources.

Security experts believe such recoveries highlight both the vigilance of the forces and the continued need to sanitise forest regions of residual weapons stockpiles.

The latest seizure in the Maspur-Gudrapal forest belt is being viewed as a major operational success for the security forces in the region.
