Anti-terror raids after the Delhi blast have intensified across the north and south Kashmir districts, with a focus on dismantling the broader nexus in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Thursday.
Baramulla Police carried out a series of meticulously coordinated preventive operations across the district. The raids were aimed at strengthening the internal security network, neutralising subversive and anti-national elements, and reinforcing public order and civic confidence, officials said.
Shopian Police also carried out similar raids across multiple locations in the district, targeting members of terror outfits such as Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and Jammu and Kashmir National Front (JKNF).
In two separate statements, police officials said these multi-district searches led to six individuals linked with subversive networks being brought to police stations and bound down under the law. Twenty-two properties associated with OGWs were searched.
The statement further said 20 OGWs were bound down and two were sent to jail under preventive detention. Two individuals booked under the UAPA (presently on bail) were examined, one person was bound down under preventive law, eight bailed UAPA accused were identified for bail cancellation, and two cases have been submitted before the competent court.
The statement said 16 CASOs were conducted at different locations, 292 vehicles were thoroughly checked at various checkpoints across the district. Five E&IMCO-linked individuals and two JeI affiliates were searched to ensure compliance with the law and two absconding UAPA accused were also traced, and legal action was initiated.
“These operations are being carried out at various locations even today (Thursday) as part of continued efforts to strengthen the security framework in the district,” the statement added.
