The Punjab Police have successfully dismantled a cross-border arms smuggling module with the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of six illegal pistols, officials confirmed on Tuesday. This operation marks a significant step in curbing the flow of illicit weapons into the state.

According to Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were in direct contact with Pakistan-based smugglers. These connections were reportedly established and maintained through various social media platforms, which were used to coordinate the illegal transportation of arms across the border.

The investigation further uncovered that once the accused received the weapon consignments, they played an active role in distributing them to criminal elements operating in different parts of Punjab. This suggests the existence of a wider network aimed at supplying illegal arms to fuel criminal activities in the region.

The Amritsar Police, acting on intelligence inputs, carried out the operation that led to the recovery of the six pistols from the accused. Authorities believe that this seizure has potentially prevented these weapons from being used in serious crimes.

An FIR has been registered at the Police Station Cantonment in Amritsar under relevant sections of the Arms Act. Police officials have stated that the investigation is ongoing and efforts are being made to trace both forward and backward linkages of the network. The primary objective is to identify other individuals involved and completely dismantle the smuggling syndicate.

Officials emphasised that further arrests and recoveries are likely as the probe progresses, highlighting the police’s continued commitment to maintaining law and order, and preventing cross-border criminal activities.
