A search operation was launched after security forces reported a suspected Pakistani drone near critical installations in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, officials said.
Army officials said the drone was seen hovering at an altitude of over 700 metres, moving from west to east over a military garrison in Bari Brahmana during early morning hours.
Shortly after noticing the suspected activity, the alert troops immediately launched a search operation in the area.
The police were also informed, and a joint search operation was launched to ensure that there was no airdropping of weapons or narcotics, the officials said.
Drone sightings across the Jammu division near the critical army installations have become frequent in the past couple of weeks.
These drones reportedly carry arms, ammunition, drugs, and other essential supplies dropped by the Pakistani troops for militants operating across the region.
Though these sightings are nothing new, in recent months, post Operation Sindoor, the Pakistani army has launched several reconnaissance drones, possibly meant to collect critical data about sensitive locations.
The Indian Army has also intensified its operations against the terrorists and their OGWs located near the border areas, who help and navigate them to the upper reaches of the Jammu division, providing critical logistics support.
According to various reports from Army accounts, at least 7 incidents of noted drone sightings were reported in Jammu and Kashmir in the past month.
In one of the incidents on August 24, the Army reportedly sighted more than half a dozen drones in Poonch.
