Terrorists opened fire on an Army vehicle in the Sunderbani area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Wednesday, prompting a security cordon and search operation by the armed forces.
The incident occurred at approximately 1 pm in the forested terrain near Phall village along Sunderbani-Malla Road.
According to reports, one or two rounds were fired at a patrol vehicle of the 9 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles (JAK Rifles).
No casualties have been reported so far.
“At 1300 hours (1 pm), an army vehicle was fired upon at Village Phall near Water Tank, a forest area on Sunderbani-Malla road close to the LoC,” officials familiar with the matter stated.
Authorities believe the assailants targeted the vehicle from the forest cover before escaping.
The area is known as a traditional infiltration route for militants operating in the region.
Security forces swiftly responded by cordoning off the area and deploying additional reinforcements.
A massive search operation has been initiated to track down the attackers.
The Army remains on high alert following the incident.
A Defence spokesperson confirmed that a firing incident had taken place in Sunderbani but refrained from divulging further details.
Investigations are underway.
