Arunachal, Mizoram mark 39 yrs of statehood with festivities

President Droupadi Murmu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended their greetings to Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram on their Statehood Day. Celebrations included cultural performances, mass prayers, and recognition of social welfare contributions, marking the states' significant progress since attaining statehood in 1987.

Indian leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Thursday extended greetings to the people of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram on their Statehood Day, commending the contributions of both states to the nation's progress.

 

President Droupadi Murmu conveyed her greetings to the people of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.

 

"Greetings to the people of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram on Statehood Day. Blessed by Mother Nature and having rich cultural heritage, both states represent India at its best," the President posted on 'X'.

 

"I am sure that the people of both the states will preserve their extraordinary natural heritage and cultural traditions. I wish the wonderful people of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram script new chapters of progress and excellence," she added.

 

 

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his best wishes, acknowledging the states' significant contributions.

 

"Warm wishes to our sisters and brothers of Arunachal Pradesh on Statehood Day. Gifted with natural beauty and cultural diversity, Arunachal Pradesh has made immense contributions to Bharat's growth. May the state touch new heights," Shah wrote on 'X'.

 

 

In a separate post, he conveyed similar sentiments to Mizoram.

 

"Greetings to our sisters and brothers of Mizoram on Statehood Day. Blessed with a rich heritage, the people of Mizoram have always made the nation proud. I pray for the continued growth of the state," he added.

 

 

Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram attained statehood on this day in 1987, becoming the 24th and 23rd states of India respectively.

 

Mizoram's statehood followed the historic Mizoram Peace Accord signed between the Centre and the Mizo National Front (MNF) on June 30, 1986, ending two decades of insurgency. The state was formally inaugurated on February 20, 1987, by then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

 

Commemorating the occasion, a mass prayer was held at Lammual, also known as the Assam Rifles ground, in Aizawl.

 

Chief Minister Lalduhoma is scheduled to address the gathering later in the day.

 

Several Union Ministers and political leaders also extended their wishes. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma joined in extending their greetings.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the 39th Statehood Day was celebrated with fervour across all districts, including the capital, Itanagar.

 

At a ceremonial event at Indira Gandhi Park, Governor Lt. Gen. K.T. Parnaik (Retd.) hoisted the national flag in the presence of Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Chief Minister Pema Khandu, and several other dignitaries.

 

The celebration featured a vibrant cultural display showcasing the diverse tribal heritage of the state.

 

Spectacular war dances, including the Aka, Nocte, Mih Mol, Wangcho, and Tapu war dances, were performed alongside the Buyu dance by Nyishi troops. The audience was also treated to a grand performance by the Indian Army band.

 

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, addressing the gathering, highlighted the state's "phenomenal and exponential rise" in infrastructure, with improved road, rail, and air connectivity. He urged the youth to become "foot soldiers" in the nation's journey towards "Viksit Bharat @2047."

 

During the event, Dr. Rajnikant, General Secretary of the Human Welfare Association, Varanasi, was felicitated by the Governor for his contributions to social welfare.

 

Arunachal Pradesh, formerly known as the North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA), attained Union Territory status on January 20, 1972, before becoming a full-fledged state on February 20, 1987.

 

Other prominent leaders, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, also extended their greetings on the occasion.
