Ashok Gajapathi Raju to be sworn in as Goa Governor on July 26

Ashok Gajapathi Raju, 74, the veteran Telugu Desam Party leader from Andhra Pradesh, will take over from PS Sreedharan Pillai as the Governor of Goa.

Ashok Gajapathi Raju, a former Union minister, will sworn in as the new governor of Goa on Saturday during a function at Raj Bhavan, an official said on Friday. The 11.30 am swearing-in ceremony is likely to witness the attendance of a number of dignitaries, including Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, a state government spokesperson said.

Raju (74), the veteran Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader from Andhra Pradesh, will take over from PS Sreedharan Pillai as the Governor of Goa. He was civil aviation minister from May 27, 2014 to March 10, 2018 during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has been a minister in the Andhra Pradesh government as well.

A warm farewell was given to outgoing Governor Pillai on Thursday.

Pillai took part in a function at the new Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, where he handed out financial assistance from the discretionary funds to 38 cancer patients and patients who were on dialysis.

Addressing the gathering, Sawant said Pillai made the Raj Bhavan outreach centre for the people of Goa, and he thanked him for the support he lent to enable the State to function smoothly.
