The Jammu and Kashmir administration has decided to throw open Asia’s largest Tulip Garden in Srinagar on Monday, March 16, 2026. Spread across the foothills of the Zabarwan mountain range with a breathtaking view of Dal Lake, the garden—named after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi—is renowned for its unique and vibrant tulip varieties, marking the arrival of spring in Kashmir.
While other iconic Mughal Gardens in Srinagar remain open throughout the year, the Tulip Garden is typically kept open for just over a month before being closed for annual auction.
Director of Floriculture Kashmir, Mathoora Masoom, confirmed that the garden is fully prepared to welcome visitors. “With the tulips now in full bloom, the department has decided to commence the visiting schedule for the season from March 16,” he said.
The annual blooming traditionally signals the start of the tourist season in the Valley. Officials maintaining the garden said approximately 1.8 million tulip bulbs—comprising 70 to 75 different varieties—have been planted this season to create a mesmerising floral display for visitors. The density of flowerbeds has been enhanced this year to present a more vibrant and striking spectacle.
Last year the garden was opened to the public on March 26, but with the early arrival of spring and rising temperatures in 2026, authorities have advanced the opening date.
