The Assam Cabinet has approved the registration of people belonging to the Moran community and residing in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh with employment exchanges in Tinsukia district, enabling them to access government recruitment and employment-related initiatives in the state.

Announcing the decision after a Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the move would expand formal employment opportunities for eligible members of the community living along the Assam-Arunachal border.

“The state cabinet has allowed the registration of persons of the Moran community living in Arunachal Pradesh bordering Assam, possessing a valid permanent residence certificate (PRC) and OBC certificates issued by the Government of Assam, in the employment exchanges of Tinsukia district,” Sarma said.

The registration will allow them to participate in government recruitment processes and other employment-linked schemes in Assam, he added.

The Cabinet also approved measures aimed at uplifting other indigenous communities. Sarma said one post each in state civil services and state police services recruitment will be reserved for candidates from the Chutia community under the OBC quota for the next five Combined Competitive Examinations.

In another decision, the Cabinet cleared the “de-reservation” of a portion of the Village Grazing Reserve at Tiloibari Bongali and Tiloibari Nepali Gaon under the Moran revenue circle in Dibrugarh district for settlement of indigenous residents living there.

“The state cabinet has approved the proposal for relaxation and rationalisation of settlement premium for tea garden workers residing in ‘Labour Lines’ falling within town and peripheral areas under Section 17-A of the Assam Fixation of Ceiling on Land Holdings Act, 1956,” Sarma said.

The Cabinet further approved raising a loan of Rs 200.36 crore from NABARD for 27 development projects across the state.

It also decided to extend the benefits of the Mukhya Mantri LoK Sevak Arogya Yojana (MMLSAY) to elected representatives of Zila Parishads, Anchalik Panchayats and Gaon Panchayats.
