Prime Minister Narendra Modi is heading back to Assam on February 14 for a packed day-long visit, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this Sunday. This marks the PM's third trip to the state in just three months, a clear sign of how high the stakes are as the assembly elections draw closer.
Sarma laid out the day's agenda, noting that the first leg of the trip will be all about major infrastructure. The Prime Minister is set to inaugurate the long-awaited Kumar Bhaskarvarman Setu, a bridge over the Brahmaputra that will finally link Guwahati with North Guwahati. While he's there, he will also open the temporary campus for IIM Guwahati and officially hand over 100 new electric buses— a gift from the central government to the state.
The Chief Minister clarified that there won't be a general public rally at the bridge site. Instead, the real political muscle will be shown later in the day at the Khanapara field. Modi is scheduled to address a massive gathering of party workers, with plans to bring in three representatives from each of the state's 25,000 booths.
There’s also talk of a possible stop in Dibrugarh, though Sarma mentioned that part of the trip is still being hammered out. "We should have the final, minute-to-minute schedule ready in the next four or five days," the CM added.
