Security forces in Mizoram have achieved a major success in their fight against drug trafficking with the seizure of a large consignment of narcotics in Champhai district. The Assam Rifles recovered over 9 kg of methamphetamine tablets, valued at more than ₹28 crore, and arrested one person in connection with the case, officials said on Monday.
According to an official statement, the recovery was made on Sunday at a village in eastern Mizoram’s Champhai district. Assam Rifles personnel noticed suspicious movement of a pickup van and stopped the vehicle for inspection.
During a thorough search, the troops recovered 9.391 kg of methamphetamine tablets, a highly addictive psychotropic substance, which had been cleverly concealed inside a spare tyre of the vehicle. The seized contraband has been estimated to be worth approximately ₹28.17 crore in the illegal market.
One person, identified as a resident of Assam, was arrested for possession of the drugs, officials added.
The seized narcotics, along with the arrested individual, were handed over to the Champhai district police for further investigation and necessary legal action. Officials said the operation marks a significant step in curbing cross-border drug trafficking in the region.
