Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), seized 1,30,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 39 crore in Cachar district and apprehended three individuals from Tripura on November 20 while transporting the narcotics via NH-306. Two trucks and two mobile phones were also recovered. Investigations into the source and network of the drugs are ongoing.
The operation was based on specific intelligence about drug trafficking. Assam Rifles has been at the forefront of anti-narcotics operations in the region, conducting regular drives to dismantle trafficking networks. The seizure has been described as a significant milestone in curbing illegal drug movement in Assam.
In a separate operation in Tuipang, Siaha district, Assam Rifles intercepted a tipper at around 3:35 am on Tuesday based on intelligence regarding illegal transport of foreign currency and contraband. The team recovered Burmese Kyat 1,75,00,000 (approximately Rs 88 lakh), two cases of smuggled tobacco worth Rs 50,000, and one case of foreign cigarettes valued at Rs 1,30,000.

One individual, identified as U Phyu Maung (37), a resident of Rakhine State, Myanmar, was apprehended for his role in the illegal transportation. The recovered contraband and the accused were handed over to Tuipang police station for further legal proceedings.
Assam Rifles officials said the operations reflect the force’s sustained, intelligence-driven initiatives to curb drug trafficking and smuggling of foreign currency and goods along sensitive border regions. The seizures highlight the continued efforts to protect communities from narcotics networks while reinforcing law enforcement in remote border districts.
