A teenager has been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of his two minor stepbrothers in Assam's Udalguri district. The incident, which has left the local community in shock, occurred in the village of Santopara on December 21.
The victims, Gaurav and Kaushik, both minors, were reported missing on December 20 after leaving their home for school. Their bodies were discovered with their throats slit by a local resident, who promptly alerted the police.
Neeraj Sharma, the teenager stepbrother of the victims, was arrested on charges of double murder.
Police seized the murder weapon and a motorcycle used in the crime. Bodoland Territorial Region IGP Vivek Raj Singh confirmed the arrest and provided details of the investigation.
"The two victims, Gaurav and Kaushik, were reported missing since Friday after they left home for school. Their bodies were discovered this morning by a local resident, who alerted police," Singh said.
During the investigation, police gathered evidence from the crime scene and questioned several suspects. "It was learned that their stepbrother, Neeraj, was involved in the murders," Singh added.
He further confirmed that Neeraj had taken the boys on his motorbike to school and committed the crime in an isolated location along the way.
On the motive for the murders, Singh stated, "Neeraj was feeling neglected and aggrieved towards their father for the lack of attention. It seems he was depressed, but we have not found any evidence of drug addiction."
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, as the seemingly senseless crime unfolds with no clear external involvement.
