The timings of the iconic 'beating the retreat' ceremony at the Attari-Wagah Border have been revised in view of the prevailing heatwave conditions.
From Friday, May 1, 2026, the daily ceremony will be held from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm, instead of the earlier schedule of 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Officials stated that the change has been made due to rising temperatures and the expected impact of the heatwave.
The Border Security Force (BSF) clarified that such adjustments in timing are made every year depending on changing daylight hours and weather conditions in the region.
For decades, the Attari-Wagah Border has become a powerful symbol of patriotism as jawans of the BSF and Pakistan Rangers perform synchronised, high-energy drills.
The ceremony reaches its emotional peak with personnel from both sides marching in perfect rhythm, loud chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, and the ceremonial lowering of the national flags.
The event continues to draw thousands of visitors every day, including domestic and international tourists, even during periods of tension between the two countries.
Organisers have urged visitors to reach the venue well in advance to avoid inconvenience and to fully experience the patriotic ceremony.
