An avalanche alert has been issued for some high-altitude areas in Himachal Pradesh for the next 24 hours, according to the local weather office on Saturday. The weather department also predicted rain and snow in the state until Thursday.
Since Friday evening, some parts of the state have received light snowfall. Gondla and Kukumseri in the Lahaul and Spiti district got 8 cm and 4.2 cm of snow, while Kalpa in Kinnaur received 2 cm.
The Defence Geoinformatics Research Establishment in Chandigarh issued an "orange" alert, warning of possible avalanches in the high-altitude areas of Chamba, Kullu, Kinnaur, and Lahaul and Spiti districts within the next 24 hours.
Snowfall since February 26 has made life difficult for people in Chamba’s Pangi valley. Road closures have forced villagers to carry sick people to hospitals using makeshift stretchers.
On Friday, a patient named Sham Singh from Punto village was carried on a palanquin to Civil Hospital in Killar. Earlier, residents of Hudan panchayat had carried two patients, Sher Singh and Hira Lal, to the hospital on their backs.

Several places in the state experienced rain. Kalpa recorded 22.6 mm of rain, followed by Manali (18 mm), Kotkhai (16.1 mm), Rohru (15 mm), Saloni (14.2 mm), Theog and Kufri (12 mm each), Kasauli (11 mm), Seobagh (10 mm), Bhuntar (8.6 mm), Shimla (8.2 mm), Solan (7 mm), and Chamba (6 mm).
Thunderstorms occurred in Bhuntar, Jot, and Palampur, while Kufri experienced hailstorms.
Kukumseri recorded the lowest temperature at minus 2.6 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Dhaulakuan in Sirmaur district was the warmest place in the state, reaching a daytime temperature of 26.7 degrees Celsius. Between March 1 and 15, Himachal Pradesh received 60.7 mm of rainfall, which is slightly above the normal amount of 57.4 mm for this period, marking an increase of 6 per cent.
