In an interesting development, a youth from North Kashmir’s Baramulla district has embarked on a foot march to raise awareness against drug abuse and to meet recently released Doda MLA Mehraj Malik.
A resident of Rohama in Baramulla, Shahid Zahoor is on a long-distance walk of around 270 kilometres to Doda with the aim of meeting MLA Malik, who was jailed for eight months.
During his journey, Zahoor has been getting massive support from people while also drawing some attention from political leaders and other influential sections of society. He is making stops at different locations along the route, and interacting with residents who have come forward to support and appreciate his effort.
Zahoor is also spreading awareness about the ongoing 100-day anti-drug campaign launched by LG Manoj Sinha earlier in April. The young man is using the opportunity to talk to people, especially the youth, about the dangers of drug abuse. He urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to work collectively towards building a morally upright, just, and substance abuse–free society.
Inspired by the ongoing anti-drug campaign initiatives in J&K, he said he would do everything to contribute to the cause while continue raising awareness during the journey.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have also sought public support in their ongoing fight against drug abuse, urging people to collaborate with law enforcement to curb substance abuse among the youth.
