Fear linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has now spread to Madhya Pradesh’s capital, with a businessman in Bhopal receiving death threats after refusing to pay a massive extortion demand.
According to police, Gaurav Jain, a businessman and social worker residing in the Kolar area, was allegedly threatened by a gang member identified as Harry Boxer. The accused reportedly demanded Rs 10 crore through a WhatsApp call made a few days ago.
Jain initially ignored the call. However, on March 20, he was contacted again by the same number, with the demand repeated. When he refused to pay, the caller allegedly abused him and issued a death threat, warning him of dire consequences.
Taking the threats seriously, Jain approached the Kolar Police Station and filed a complaint.
Police have registered an FIR against the accused and launched an investigation. Kolar police station in-charge Sanjay Soni confirmed that a case has been registered and efforts are underway to trace the accused.
Jain has also requested police protection for himself and his family, citing a serious threat to their lives. The incident comes amid a series of extortion attempts in Madhya Pradesh allegedly linked to the same gang.
Recently, businessmen in Indore and Khargone reported similar threats. In one case, miscreants allegedly opened fire at a trader’s house after an extortion demand was refused. Police had also earlier arrested a gang-linked suspect in Ashoknagar.
