Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena is seen to have quit his position, say sources. The news emerged on Monday, when the IPS officer of 2013 batch resigned from his post due to personal reasons. On the confirmation of his resignation, Meena said that he would join the private sector after getting his resignation accepted by the State Government. Further details regarding the official acceptance of his resignation and the appointment of his successor are still awaited. The senior police official revealed that he actually put in his papers nearly a month ago, though the administrative processing remains pending.

While speaking to the media, Meena declined to elaborate on any factors beyond personal grounds, maintaining his focus on moving into a corporate career. With the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) as his alma mater, Meena has exhibited a commendable record both academically and professionally during his career in public service. In February 2025, Meena assumed the role of the DCP of Bhubaneswar and has made it popular for him to solve cases at a rapid pace.

Prior to being posted to the capital city, Meena had held various high profile posts in the state, such as DCP of Cuttack and SP of Angul, besides the highly sensitive post of Ganjam. Throughout his career span, he received several awards of repute, among which were the Police Medal for Gallantry (2019), Police Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak (2021), and the Governor's Medal (2023).

Meena’s decision to exit the force comes during a period of heightened public and political scrutiny regarding the conduct of the Odisha Police. Constabularies across the state have faced criticism over a rise in specific crimes and incidents of mob violence. Speculation suggests that administrative pressures may have influenced his departure, reportedly following expressions of displeasure by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi regarding the Bhubaneswar Police's handling of the death of Government Railway Police (GRP) Constable Soumya Ranjan in Balianta.

Officially, however, Meena has maintained that his departure is entirely driven by personal motivations. Speaking directly to reporters, he said there was no other reason for his decision, adding that there was no pressure on him and that he felt privileged to have had the opportunity to serve. He praised the people of Odisha and expressed his hope that Lord Jagannath's blessings would remain with him.
