Bihar CM inaugurates 500-bed expansion at IGIMS hospital

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar opened a new 500-bed building at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences.


Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar opened a new 500-bed building at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), raising the hospital’s total capacity to 1,700 beds. He mentioned that the hospital would offer all modern medical services.


The new A and B Blocks, which have 200 beds, were built at a cost of Rs 280 crore. The Chief Minister said IGIMS is an important hospital where patients will receive better treatment with all necessary facilities.


Kumar also highlighted improvements in healthcare across Bihar, from local health centers to medical colleges. He noted that the government is providing free medicines and working to benefit the people.


According to reports from Patna Press, admitted patients will have access to bedside sample collection for tests and radiology services. The new building also includes modular operation theatres, a high-dependency unit (HDU), and a recovery ICU for post-surgery care, all on the fifth floor.

While inspecting the building, the Chief Minister directed officials to install solar panels on the roof to provide solar energy for the hospital.


In a related development, Kumar also announced plans to build a new Medical College and Hospital in Araria district. A team will be formed soon to find land for the project. During his visit to Araria, he inaugurated and laid the foundation for 449 projects worth Rs 305 crore.
