Former Mokama MLA Anant Singh, who was named in a case related to a shooting on the outskirts of Patna a few days ago, turned himself in to a court in Barh on Friday and was sent to jail.
Patna’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Awkash Kumar said, "The former MLA surrendered before the court and has been sent to Beur jail." Police had filed three FIRs related to the shooting incident.
The shooting happened on Wednesday evening when Anant Singh’s convoy was attacked in Mokama. The Sonu-Monu gang is said to have carried out the attack, firing many shots. Singh’s supporters fought back, leading to a gun battle.
Eyewitnesses said 60 to 70 shots were fired, but police said it was only 16-17. Singh was not injured in the incident.
On Friday, there was another shooting in Hamza village near Mokama. Police found three spent cartridges at the scene. The shooting happened in front of Mukesh Singh's house. Police officials are investigating. Two people, Sonu and Roushan, have been arrested in connection with Wednesday’s shooting.

The Sonu-Monu gang targeted Mukesh Singh, a former member of the gang who had reportedly asked Anant Singh for help.
Anant Singh, also known as 'Chhote Sarkar,' is a former gangster turned politician who has been elected as MLA for Mokama several times. His wife, who is also an MLA, recently joined Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) party from the opposition RJD.
Singh was disqualified from the assembly in June 2020 after being found guilty of having an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and grenades in his family home in 2018. However, in August 2024, the Patna High Court cleared him of these charges and ordered his release from jail.
