The Bihar government has announced financial assistance and a government job for a member of Bharat Tiwari’s family following the submission of an interim report by a judicial inquiry into his death in a police encounter.
Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary said the decision was taken based on the findings of the interim inquiry report. The probe was ordered after Tiwari’s death triggered controversy and allegations surrounding the circumstances of the encounter.
“Based on the interim report of the judicial inquiry, the Bihar government will provide financial assistance to the family of the late Bharat Tiwari and offer a government job to one family member,” Chaudhary said in a post on X.
Tiwari, a resident of Bilauti village in Bhojpur district, was killed in a police encounter on June 17. His family has alleged that he had surrendered and laid down his weapon before police opened fire.
The family had demanded an impartial investigation into the incident and questioned the conduct of the police personnel involved.

Their lawyer, Sanjeev Kumar Singh, had alleged that several officials were involved in a planned conspiracy to kill Tiwari. He claimed that five police officers fired five shots using different weapons.
Singh also said the family had approached the President with a petition seeking action, which was subsequently forwarded to the Bihar chief secretary.
According to the lawyer, an STF officer, Akshay Kumar, was later arrested in connection with the case.
The legal team has alleged that the conspiracy was planned from June 16 and that Tiwari was killed the following day. Singh claimed that three shots were fired initially, followed by two more around 15 minutes later after Tiwari had allegedly been forced into a vehicle.
Earlier in July, Arrah Superintendent of Police Raj confirmed that joint teams of Arrah Police and the Special Task Force had arrested STF constable Akshay Kumar from Ara in connection with the encounter case.
The government’s announcement comes as the judicial inquiry into Tiwari’s death continues.
