The upcoming Bihar assembly elections have reached far beyond the state’s borders, with the Haryana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) preparing a large-scale drive to send around 2.5 to 3 lakh Bihari migrant voters back home to cast their votes.
This unique move is part of the BJP’s wider strategy to ensure high voter turnout in Bihar. The campaign also aims to encourage migrant workers to exercise their right to vote and inspire others to do the same, regardless of their political preferences.
A senior Haryana BJP leader told News18 that the party has identified a large population of Bihari migrants living in 10 districts across Haryana. Most of them are industrial workers based in the NCR’s factory areas such as Gurugram, Faridabad, Palwal, Jhajjar, Rohtak, Sonipat, Panipat, and Karnal. “We have already connected with over one lakh voters,” the source said. “Our goal is to ensure that those registered in Bihar are present there on election day.” The outreach focuses on spreading the BJP’s message of “good governance” while drawing comparisons with earlier governments.
The scale of the plan is evident in districts like Panipat, which alone has around 25,000 Bihari migrant voters. A small portion—about 2,300—have settled permanently in Haryana and been removed from Bihar’s voter list during the Special Intensive Revision. However, most still remain eligible to vote in Bihar.
To make this plan work, the party is sending over 500 Vistarakas (campaign volunteers) from Panipat alone to Bihar. Their job will be to mobilise and engage with the voters to ensure maximum participation.
The importance of this effort is reflected in the personal involvement of top Haryana BJP leaders. Senior leaders reportedly held multiple meetings last week to review logistics and assigned specific responsibilities to local leaders to coordinate the process.
The BJP is also working to resolve practical issues that prevent labourers from voting. Haryana BJP leaders are reaching out to factory owners, asking them to grant paid leave to Bihari workers so they can travel home to vote without losing wages.
To make travel easier, the party plans to run special buses from Haryana to Bihar around November 1 or 2. Return trips will also be arranged after the elections to ensure convenience for the migrant voters.
In addition, the Haryana BJP has deployed a strong team of leaders to support the Bihar campaign. Fifty senior leaders and ministers, including Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar and Haryana Ministers Vipul Goyal and Rao Narbir Singh, have been given special duties. Of them, 25 are already stationed in Bihar, reflecting how seriously the party is approaching the migrant voter segment.
This move signals a major step in inter-state political coordination, showing how migrant workers have become an important and influential voting bloc.
Meanwhile, the Haryana government has made special arrangements for Chhath Puja this year. Chief Minister Nayab Saini instructed district administrations in Gurugram, Faridabad, and Panchkula to prepare ghats with proper sanitation, lighting, and security. These preparations also include traffic and crowd management to ensure safety and comfort for devotees.
