A woman has been arrested in Buxar district, Bihar, for allegedly strangling her eight-year-old stepdaughter to death, setting the body on fire, and then hiding the remains in a gunny bag.
The victim, Aanchal Kumari, was found on Saturday night with her charred body stuffed inside a gunny bag, which was concealed in a wooden box at the family’s home in Naya Bhojpur, under the jurisdiction of Dumraon police station.
Police were alerted to the missing girl when her family filed a complaint on Saturday. Authorities immediately began searching for Aanchal. When they searched the house, they discovered the girl's body hidden in the wooden box.
During the investigation, the woman, identified as the stepmother, confessed to the crime. She admitted to strangling Aanchal and then setting the body on fire. Afterward, she stuffed the remains in the gunny bag and hid it.
The police have arrested the stepmother based on her confession and evidence from the scene. The body has been sent for a scientific examination.
The stepmother has not yet revealed the reason for the crime, and police are continuing their investigation. The victim's father, who lives in Delhi, has been informed.
