Health authorities have issued a bird flu alert in Punjab and eight other states due to the rising risk of the H5N1 virus. The alert, released by the Central Government’s Dairy and Animal Husbandry Department, warns people to be cautious, especially those consuming poultry.
According to officials, bird flu cases have been detected in multiple states, increasing the risk of transmission. The virus spreads primarily through infected birds, but humans can also contract it by handling or consuming contaminated poultry.
Experts advise against eating undercooked or sick poultry and recommend maintaining hygiene while handling raw meat.
Symptoms of H5N1 infection include cough, cold, fever, difficulty in breathing, and, in severe cases, nosebleeds. Health officials have urged people to report unusual bird deaths and avoid direct contact with infected birds. Strict monitoring and preventive measures are being implemented to control the outbreak.
