The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday raised concerns in the Jharkhand Assembly over the recent violence in Hazaribag’s Ichak during Maha Shivaratri celebrations, demanding a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.
The clashes erupted on Wednesday when a dispute over the installation of religious flags and a loudspeaker escalated into violence, leading to several injuries. The unrest reportedly involved members of two communities, triggering tension in the area.

BJP MLAs create uproar, demand government action
As soon as the Assembly session commenced for the day, BJP legislators staged a protest, disrupting proceedings and demanding an immediate response from the government.
They urged authorities to take swift action to restore peace in the affected region and ensure that justice is served.
Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato assured the protesting legislators that they would be given a chance to speak and requested them to allow the Question Hour to proceed smoothly.
Accusations and call for apology
BJP’s Barkatha MLA Amit Yadav condemned the violence, stating that several motorcycles and auto-rickshaws were torched during the clashes. He called on the government to take decisive action to bring the situation under control.
Yadav also demanded an apology from Minister Irfan Ansari, who had allegedly accused BJP workers of involvement in the incident.
Demand for a Legislative Committee Probe
Earlier, Hazaribag MLA Pradeep Prasad called for the formation of a Jharkhand Assembly committee to conduct an independent investigation into the violence.
Following assurances from the Speaker, BJP legislators resumed their seats, allowing the Question Hour to proceed. However, the demand for a fair probe and government intervention remained central to the day’s discussions in the assembly.
