BJP denies vandalism at Agartala TMC office, calls it ‘drama’

The BJP has dismissed TMC’s vandalism claims in Tripura, calling the visit a “scripted drama” meant to malign the state’s image. The party asserted no damage occurred at the TMC office.

The TMC delegation submits an FIR at the Agartala police station following. The BJP had described the trip as a “scripted drama” amid allegations of vandalism.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday dismissed allegations of vandalism at the Trinamool Congress (TMC) office in Agartala, accusing the visiting TMC delegation of staging a “scripted drama” for political mileage.

Addressing reporters in Agartala, state BJP chief spokesperson Subarata Chakraborty claimed that the people of Tripura had “rejected” the TMC and that the party’s allegations were baseless.

“There was no vandalism at the TMC office, as no table or chairs were damaged. The party office remains intact. No physical attack was reported. The TMC delegation arrived here to stage a scripted drama but could not succeed,” Chakraborty said.

He further alleged that the delegation’s primary intent was to tarnish Tripura’s image in West Bengal, where, he claimed, law and order had collapsed.

“The TMC delegation arrived here with the specific agenda of maligning the reputation of Tripura in West Bengal, where a ‘jungle raj’ is going on. The attack on our MP and MLA in north Bengal is the testimony of the law and order situation there,” he added.

The statement came after a six-member Trinamool delegation landed in Tripura earlier this week to inspect its state headquarters, which it alleged had been vandalised by BJP supporters on Monday.

Responding to reports that TMC leaders were stranded at the airport due to a lack of transport, Chakraborty remarked that local vehicle owners may have refused to cooperate with a delegation “that had come only to stage a drama”.

“The vehicle owners may not have wanted to assist the delegation, which had come here only to stage a drama,” he said.

The TMC leadership has yet to respond to the BJP’s counter-allegations, but the episode has further strained ties between the two parties as both continue to expand their political footprint in the Northeast.
