Fresh political tensions have surfaced in the Nanur Assembly constituency amid allegations of electoral malpractice raised by the BJP against the ruling TMC. BJP candidate Khokon Das has approached the Election Commission with a formal complaint, alleging that party agents were prevented from taking their seats in over a hundred polling booths across the constituency.
According to the BJP, several agents were forcibly evicted, while others were allegedly barred from even entering certain villages.
The party has also raised serious concerns regarding voter intimidation, claiming that in the Thupsara region, voters were obstructed from casting their ballots. Additionally, allegations have emerged that voter slips issued by the Election Commission were forcibly snatched away from individuals attempting to vote.
In its complaint, the BJP has urged the Election Commission to take immediate action, particularly highlighting the confiscation of official voter slips as a grave violation of electoral norms.
Responding to the accusations, TMC candidate Bidhan Chandra Majhi dismissed the claims, stating that he was unaware of any such incidents. In a sharp and sarcastic remark, Majhi said that if the BJP lacked sufficient manpower to deploy agents, the TMC itself would arrange personnel for them.
“We have no information about such incidents. If something like this has happened, they should inform us, and we will personally go and install their agents. BJP does not have the manpower to provide its own agents. As for intimidation, they have the Election Commission—why not report it there?” Majhi stated.
As of now, no further response has been issued by Das following Majhi’s remarks.
The situation continues to draw attention as polling-related allegations intensify, with all eyes now on the Election Commission’s response to the complaints.
