As per the programme, BJP leaders and workers will assemble at Ram Munshibagh, Sonwar, at 10:00 am and march towards Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s Gupkar residence.

The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday announced it will take out a protest march to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s residence demanding a complete ban on the sale and purchase of liquor in the Kashmir Valley.

The move comes amid a growing political controversy over the issue of alcohol sales in the Valley, even as the 100-day Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan is underway.

According to the party, the protest will be led by its leaders and workers against the National Conference government for defending and promoting the sale of liquor in the region.

As per the programme, BJP leaders and workers will assemble at Ram Munshibagh, Sonwar and march towards Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s Gupkar residence.

The party said the protest aims to raise awareness and garner greater public support against the sale of liquor in Kashmir.

The Kashmiri population has expressed serious discontent with the ruling National Conference after Omar Abdullah stated that his government was not planning to expand liquor outlets but ruled out an outright ban, citing potential revenue losses.

He had said that liquor was already being consumed in the region and questioned whether people wanted it sold openly under regulation or pushed underground through illegal channels.

However, his explanation has not received positive feedback, with many demanding a complete ban on liquor sales in the Valley.
