Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Friday filed a chargesheet against eight people, including a local BJP leader and four revenue officials, for their involvement in a multi-crore land scam involving large-scale manipulation of records and illegal land occupation in Srinagar, officials said.
The chargesheet, filed in connection with FIR No. 23/2019, was submitted before the Court of the Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, following a comprehensive investigation into a massive corruption scandal within the revenue department and the fraudulent occupation of government land.
Abdul Waheed Shah, SSP of the Economic Offences Wing, Crime Branch Kashmir, said, “The chargesheet has been submitted before the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, against eight accused individuals, including four revenue officials. The investigation revealed that three of the offenders were retired, while one is still serving.”
The investigation also revealed that the complaint alleged that two residents of Iqbal Colony, Shalteng, namely Nadeem Ahmad Mayer, alias Nadeem Qasba, and his father, Shafiq Ahmad Mayer, had illegally encroached upon 52 kanals of land at Ehel Danihama by fabricating revenue records.
Nadeem Qasba recently joined the BJP and was appointed as the district vice president by the party. According to officials, he had executed fake and mutated entries, bearing numbers 13, 16, 17, 18, 30, 31, and 34, under the guise of an oral gift.
Investigators concluded that the fraudulent activity was carried out with the active collusion of the revenue officials. The alleged employees had tampered with several official records and bypassed all legal procedures to facilitate the illegal occupation and transfer of the land.
The case involves eight individuals who are likely to face proceedings in court are Nadeem Ahmad Mayer (Qasba) of Iqbal Colony, Shalteng; Irfan Ahmad Mayer of Iqbal Colony, Shalteng; Abdul Hamid Kathu of Astanpora Tailbal, Srinagar (then Patwari, now retired); Ghulam Jeelani Rather of Dara Harwan (then Patwari); Ali Mohammad Dar (then Patwari, now retired); Nazir Ahmad Palla of Chandpora Harwan; and Bilal Ahmad Dar of Mufti Bagh Harwan, presently residing at New Theed, Srinagar.
