15-year-old boy dies in Hubballi while filming risky social media stunt; police probe crash involving minors, raising safety concerns over reels.

A 15-year-old boy lost his life in a tragic accident while attempting to film a social media stunt in Hubballi, about 400 km north of Bengaluru, police said. The deceased, Namish Sangalad, was the son of a local BJP leader.

According to officials, the incident occurred on the outskirts of the city in Shejawadkar Layout, where Namish and his friends had gone to shoot an Instagram reel.

Police said Namish, a Class IX student studying in Mysuru, had come to Hubballi to celebrate the Ugadi festival. During the outing, the group decided to recreate a road accident scene for social media content, involving risky manoeuvres.

“Namish was riding a scooter, while another boy of similar age was driving a high-end car. As their friends filmed the reel, both reportedly lost control of their vehicles and collided,” police officials said.

The impact of the collision was severe, throwing Namish several feet and causing critical injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

N. Shashikumar, Commissioner of the Hubballi-Dharwad Police, visited the accident site. A case has been registered by the Vidyanagara police, and further investigation is underway.

Authorities are also expected to question the father of the minor who was driving the car, as allowing an underage individual to operate a vehicle is a violation of the law.

The incident has once again raised concerns about the dangers of performing risky stunts for social media content, particularly among teenagers.
