Three BJP legislators were marshalled out of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Thursday after they attempted to storm into the well of the House, continuing their protests over an alleged corruption scandal in the Roads & Buildings Department.

The legislators also raised slogans denouncing Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather’s refusal to entertain a draft for discussion on the destruction caused by the recent floods in the UT.

During the Question Hour, BJP legislators once again demanded a discussion on the floods, pointing out that they had submitted a fresh adjournment motion on the issue.

However, it ruled that an adjournment motion cannot be brought on the same issue once it has been rejected.

Angered by another rejection, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Sunil Kumar Sharma, accused the government of evading discussion on the flood situation.

Sharma said, “Every corner of Jammu and Kashmir was affected by floods caused by heavy rainfall. People have expectations that there will be discussions on the impact of the floods, but no such discussion has taken place.”

He demanded the adjournment of the Question Hour for the discussion on the plight of flood-affected people.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Sharma waved a newspaper report alleging corruption in the Roads & Buildings Department, triggering slogans and counter-slogans from both the treasury benches and the opposition.

Despite repeated directions from the Speaker to return to their seats, the protesting legislators continued their demonstrations, shouting anti-government slogans while intensifying the protest.

Three BJP legislators – RS Pathania, Sunil Bhardwaj, and Surinder Kumar – stormed into the well of the House but were eventually marshalled out.
