Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday unveiled its poll manifesto for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, pledging to generate two lakh jobs, implement a Rs 5 lakh crore infrastructure plan, protect indigenous land rights, and introduce the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) if voted to power.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, alongside Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, BJP Assam in-charge Baijayant Panda, and state BJP Chief Dilip Saikia, presented the party’s 31-point “Sankalp Patra” ahead of the April 9 polls.
The manifesto highlights several key promises, including the recovery of encroached land from so-called “Bangladeshi Miyas,” development initiatives across the state, employment opportunities for youths, and measures to make Assam flood-free.
Speaking at the event, Sitharaman emphasised Assam’s economic growth under BJP rule, noting that the state’s GDP had risen 3.3 times over the last decade, from Rs 2.24 lakh crore in 2015-16 to Rs 7.41 lakh crore in 2025-26.
She added, “This manifesto has been built on a decade of delivery. When I look at Assam from the perspective of the Union Finance Minister, the state has been transformed in the last 10 years in ways the six decades of Congress rule could never achieve.”
CM Sarma reiterated that a third consecutive BJP government would intensify action against illegal migrants from Bangladesh under the Immigrants Expulsion from Assam Act, 1950, which empowers district commissioners to remove illegal migrants within 24 hours.
He also promised to reclaim encroached lands of Satras, Namghars, Devalayas, and other places of worship and pledged to make Assam flood-free within the first two years of the government’s next term.
The main contest is between the incumbent BJP-led NDA, seeking a third consecutive term, and the Congress, which aims to return to power. The Assam Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on April 9 for all 126 seats, with counting scheduled for May 4.
