The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a massive protest outside the Himachal Pradesh Assembly in Shimla on March 27, targeting what it calls the "mafia raj" and the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
BJP state president Rajiv Bindal, while making the announcement, accused the Congress-led government of failing to maintain law and order and allowing various mafias to flourish under its rule.
Bindal stated that thousands of party workers from across the state would gather for the demonstration to voice their opposition to the alleged misgovernance and misconduct of the Congress government.
He criticised the administration for its inability to curb rising crime, pointing to incidents such as the brutal murder of a Dalit youth in Chamba as evidence of increasing lawlessness.
According to Bindal, the state's security situation has deteriorated significantly during the two-and-a-half-year tenure of the Congress government, leading to a state of chaos and disorder.
He further alleged that the influence of the 'chitta' (adulterated heroin) mafia had expanded across Himachal Pradesh, posing a serious threat to the youth and public safety. Citing the recent attack on a former Congress MLA in Bilaspur, Bindal claimed that criminal elements were now operating with impunity, while the state government remained a mute spectator.
In addition to security concerns, Bindal also took aim at Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s administration for imposing a heavy financial burden on the people by increasing the prices of essential commodities.
He asserted that the government's economic policies were causing distress to the common citizens and that the BJP would continue to raise its voice against these issues.
