Punjab BJP leader Sunil Jakhar on Saturday expressed confidence that the BJP would form the next government in the state after the 2027 Assembly elections. He asserted that people in Punjab now see the BJP as a source of hope for the future.
He said voters have made up their minds to bring the BJP to power, arguing that a "double-engine government" with the same party ruling both the Centre and the state is needed to pull Punjab out of what he described as administrative and developmental stagnation under the AAP government.
Jakhar said the state cannot overcome its current challenges without strong support and cooperation from the Central government. Jakhar was speaking at the 'Sarv Samaj OBC' conference organised by the BJP in Abohar to mark 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public service. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon were also present at the event.
Referring to the BJP's governance model, Jakhar said while the Modi government has followed the principle of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas', a BJP government in Punjab would also ensure accountability. He alleged that those responsible for misusing public funds would face legal action. He further claimed that the AAP's future in Punjab would be same as the decline of the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal and that the party would weaken significantly after the next Assembly elections.
He also referred to the BJP's electoral gains against the Trinamool Congress and said political change is possible when people seek an alternative. Jakhar said if voted to power, the BJP would take strong measures to eliminate the drug menace and improve law and order. He said strict action would be taken against criminals and anti-social elements so that people could live and conduct business without fear.
He said the time had come to question leaders who rose to power in the name of ordinary citizens but later allegedly acquired luxurious lifestyles and expensive properties.
Jakhar urged people to post photographs and videos on social media comparing the earlier homes of AAP legislators with the properties they currently own.
According to him, such comparisons would help the public assess whether elected representatives had accumulated wealth after coming to power.
Highlighting the Centre's support for farmers, Jakhar said the Modi government provides urea to farmers at highly subsidised rates. He said fertiliser that costs around Rs 100 per kilogram is made available to farmers for nearly Rs 6 per kilogram through government assistance. He also called upon BJP workers to intensify their efforts and begin preparing for the 2027 Assembly elections.
