A BJP youth wing leader rammed his car into a group of people on Friday night in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district, killing an 11-year-old boy and a senior citizen, police said.
Dipendra Bhadoria, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), was reportedly inebriated while he was heading towards Jotai from Porsa. Speeding over the permissible limit, he lost control over his vehicle and hit a group of people who were sitting around a bonfire on the cold night.
Two of the victims, Ramdatt Rathore, 65, and Arnav alias Annu Lashkar, 11, suffered critical injuries and were rushed to divisional headquarters in Gwalior for advanced health care, where they died after midnight, said Sub-Divisional Officer of Police, Ravi Bhadoria.
Bhadoria, who serves as BJYM’s Porsa urban mandal president, was caught by people in the vicinity and thrashed. Despite being handed over to the police, he managed to escape, and was later apprehended in the early hours of the day, said the police official.
Angry residents blocked the highway after he escaped from police custody, they said.
The others who were injured include Kamlesh Rathore, Girraj Rathore and Abhishek Tomar, who are undergoing treatment, he added.
According to the police, post-mortem examinations will be conducted on Saturday, and the two bodies will be brought to Porsa for the last rites.
