Members of the BJP Yuva Morcha on Saturday held a protest here against the “shirtless protest” staged by the Congress’ youth wing during the AI Impact Summit in Delhi. The demonstrators, headed by senior BJP leader and former Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta, gathered at Sector 5 and shouted slogans against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
They also burned an effigy of the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. The protesters accused him and his party workers of trying to insult India during the mega event. The Yuva Morcha demanded that Gandhi apologise for allegedly defaming the nation.
On Friday, a group of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) workers staged a “shirtless protest” inside an exhibition hall during the AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam. They moved around holding T-shirts printed with images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, along with slogans against the government and its trade deal with the US.
The protest lasted only a few minutes before the group was escorted out of the hall. The sudden demonstration surprised guests and visitors, especially considering the importance of the AI Summit that India is hosting. After the incident, four IYC workers were arrested. On Saturday, they were sent to five-day police custody.
Speaking to reporters in Panchkula, Gian Chand Gupta strongly criticised Gandhi over the protest by IYC members. “The way some ‘goondas’ of Rahul Gandhi staged a demonstration and insulted India… there can be no bigger crime than this,” he said. He added that the Congress leader repeatedly tries to defame India, both within the country and abroad.
He said that the youth of the country are angry over such actions and that people will not accept them. “We demand that Rahul Gandhi resign and apologise for his people trying to insult India,” he said.
