A bomb scare was reported on an IndiGo flight bound for Shillong at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Saturday morning, prompting security agencies to move the aircraft to an isolation bay and deplane all passengers.
Flight 6E3074, scheduled to depart at 9:15 am from Kolkata to Shillong, was undergoing boarding when crew members discovered a handwritten note inside the aircraft’s lavatory claiming that a bomb had been placed on board. The crew immediately alerted authorities, following which all passengers were safely removed from the aircraft.
Airport officials confirmed that the aircraft was shifted to the isolation bay and a full security check was initiated. “During boarding, crew members found a piece of paper inside the aircraft’s toilet compartment stating that there was a bomb inside the aircraft. Immediately afterwards, passengers were removed from the aircraft. The checking process is going on,” an airport official said.
Security agencies launched a detailed inspection of the aircraft, while further information on the incident was awaited.
The development comes weeks after a similar scare on January 23, when IndiGo flight 6E2608 from Delhi to Pune received a bomb threat upon arrival at Pune Airport. The threat, also in the form of a handwritten note found in the lavatory, triggered emergency protocols.
In that case, the aircraft landed safely, and all passengers were deboarded. The plane was moved to the isolation bay, and the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee was convened. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad conducted a thorough search, but no suspicious items were found, and the aircraft was later cleared for normal operations.
Authorities said the situation was handled in a coordinated and timely manner, and no further incident was reported. Investigations into the latest scare at Kolkata airport are ongoing.
