Police and security teams carried out a search operation in Jalandhar on Monday after two schools received emails warning of bomb attacks, officials said. The threatening emails were sent to Police DAV Public School in the city centre and to the APJ School branch in the Rama Mandi area, located inside the Punjab Armed Police campus. After the school authorities alerted the police, teams reached the campuses along with sniffer dogs and bomb disposal squads.

According to officials, no suspicious objects or explosives were found during the initial searches. Classes continued as usual, as the school administrations decided not to declare a holiday to avoid panic among students and parents.

Police said an inquiry is underway to trace where the emails came from. Technical teams have been deployed to track the sender and find out whether the threats were real or just a hoax. This is not the first time that schools in Jalandhar have received such threat emails.

On February 1, a day prior to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Punjab, six schools in the city received bomb threat emails. Security agencies carried out extensive search operations at that time, but found no explosives.

One of the emails allegedly warned about possible blasts during the Prime Minister’s visit and mentioned several schools as potential targets. The message was allegedly sent under the name “Billi Hall” and also referred to Dera Ballan. Authorities later confirmed that the threats were false.

Similar incidents were also reported earlier on December 25, when several schools in Jalandhar received bomb threat emails.

Police officials have asked people to remain calm. They said security checks are being carried out thoroughly and strict action will be taken against anyone responsible for spreading panic through such hoax threats.
