Project Sampark of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has restored the damaged portion of the mountainous road in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, a Defence PRO said on Sunday.
A Jammu-based Defence PRO said on X, “A portion of the road from #Basohli to Bani had been washed out due to incessant rains, leaving a yawning gap in the road at Tikri Morh 47 km from Basohli.”
He said the Border Roads Organisation had created an entirely new stretch that had to be cut to bypass the damaged stretches of the road.
The task was undertaken in treacherous weather and difficult terrain, with the men and machinery taking measured risks to restore the destroyed stretches.
BRO is responsible for making and managing the critical road infrastructure in vital passes and border areas in Jammu and Kashmir.
For decades, it has worked with high efficiency and due diligence to maintain road connectivity in the UT.
Meanwhile, the post on X further said, “The link was restored, establishing connectivity to Bhaderwah from Basohli. Kudos to Sankar Tayal, OC 69 RCC of BRO, and his team for accomplishing this difficult mission.”
Connectivity on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was affected due to incessant rains and cloudbursts, triggering landslides and massive flash floods at several places across Poonch, Samba, Reasi, and Jammu, while operations on other regional highways were also suspended amid the persisting bad weather conditions.
