The Bharat Rashtra Samithi announced on Friday that Maganti Sunita will be its candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Jubilee Hills assembly constituency in Telangana.
Sunita is the widow of Maganti Gopinath, the BRS Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Jubilee Hills, whose death in June necessitated the vote.
BRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao confirmed the decision, stating that Sunita’s selection was made in recognition of the late Gopinath’s services to both the party and the people, and in direct response to the aspirations of the Jubilee Hills electorate. He also said it is a public desire to support Gopinath's family and acknowledge the late MLA’s continued popularity in the constituency.
Rao noted that despite the party having numerous contenders for the seat, the choice was made to specifically honour Gopinath’s work and acknowledge the significant public support for his family.
Party leadership expressed confidence that Sunita, who has been active in party programmes and is respected as a senior leader, will carry forward her husband’s legacy. The party believes that her candidature reflects both continuity and gratitude for Gopinath's contributions, and anticipate she will win the by-election, thereby strengthening the party’s base in the constituency.
The Election Commission has yet to announce the schedule for the Jubilee Hills by-election.
