The Border Security Force (BSF) seized over 6.5 kilograms of heroin valued at approximately Rs 40 crore along the International Border in the RS Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, officials said.

The narcotics were recovered during a joint search operation by the 165th Battalion of the BSF and the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Nai Basti Karotana village in the Baspur area, following specific intelligence about a drone dropping contraband from across the border.

Officials detected suspected drone movement on the intervening night of February 13 and 14. During the search, two yellow-coloured packets containing 6.582 kg of heroin were found in fields near the International Border and subsequently seized. The recovery has been described as a “significant achievement” in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking.

A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway. Police have appealed to the local population, particularly those residing near the International Border, to share any information regarding illegal drug activities in their areas.

A BSF spokesperson said, “With continued public cooperation, sincere efforts are being made to build a drug-free and crime-free society.” The seizure comes a day after police in the Kathua district arrested two notorious drug peddlers and recovered 150 grams of heroin smuggled from Pakistan via drone near Nagri.

The accused, identified as Jatin and Danish Dogra, alias Sajan — both residents of Pathankot, Punjab — were arrested in connection with the drone-dropping incident.
