The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday submitted its final charge sheet in the primary teachers recruitment scam case, marking a development in the long-running investigation. The 70-page charge sheet, filed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Kolkata, highlights several crucial aspects of the case, said an officer of the central agency.
According to agency sources, this is the fourth supplementary and final charge sheet in the matter. It includes fresh evidence and witness testimonies that investigators believe will further establish the role and responsibility of the accused.
For months, state politics has been dominated by allegations of irregularities, bribery, and corruption in the recruitment of primary teachers. A number of petitions and cases have been filed in court, leading to a prolonged legal and political tussle. The filing of this final charge sheet is expected to add new momentum to the case.
The Calcutta High Court recently granted bail to former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee in connection with the case, though he has not yet been released from jail. Legal observers are keenly waiting to see whether the latest CBI charge sheet sheds more light on his role.
CBI officials maintain that the document presents most of the allegations raised so far, backed with evidence and testimonies. Legal experts believe that this charge sheet could play a decisive role in shaping the trial in the coming days.
