A team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was attacked in Bokaro district, Jharkhand, on Wednesday while attempting to arrest an accused in a corruption case.
The incident occurred near Kalibari in the Harla police station area, where CBI officers were reportedly assaulted by unidentified individuals.
According to sources, the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Division from Dhanbad had come to apprehend a recovery agent, Dhanraj Chaudhary, who was accused of demanding a bribe from a farmer under false pretenses.
Dhanraj had allegedly asked for money in exchange for facilitating the release of a tractor, despite the fact that the farmer had already secured the vehicle through a loan from Gramin Bank and had completed the necessary payments.
After detaining Dhanraj, the CBI team was questioning him inside a vehicle when a group of individuals arrived at the scene and launched an attack on the officers. In the ensuing altercation, members of the CBI team sustained injuries, and the situation quickly escalated.
Following the assault, a formal complaint was registered at Harla police station in Bokaro district. Dhanbad Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) PK Jha confirmed the attack and reported that three CBI officers were injured.
He further stated that a police complaint had been filed, and an investigation into the matter was underway. Authorities are working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the assault on the CBI officials.
