Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday slammed the Central government, saying the Centre would now blame the West Asia conflict for all its “failures.” He said the Central government was pushing the nation into an “undeclared lockdown” while hiding the real state of the economy from the public.
“They will keep increasing it many times. In reality, (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi ji will now blame the war for everything. They will say the war is going on,” the chief minister said while responding to a question on the recent fuel price hike. Mann was speaking to mediapersons after launching a pilot project on underground electricity wires in Satoj village in Sangrur.
He stated that the Central government should make public the stock of fuel and LPG available in the country. He also pointed to earlier claims by several Union ministers that there would be no increase in fuel prices.
“Now, just after the assembly elections in several states, they have started talking about saving the country. But before the elections, the country was doing fine,” Mann said, linking the fuel price hike to failed economic and foreign policies.
“Gradually, they are restricting everything. They are asking car owners not to use cars, asking people not to go to offices, to work from home, not to buy gold, and not to hold functions. “You should clearly say the country is under lockdown. It is a complete failure of the Central government,” Mann said.
Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign visits, Mann asked, “When he travels abroad, what does he do there? Has he ever informed us? Has he ever held a press conference in the last 14 years?”
“The war is in Iran. The US, Israel, Palestine, Lebanon are fighting. But why are restrictions being imposed in our country? Why are such restrictions not there in Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh? Why only India?” he said.
