The project is also likely to generate significant employment opportunities for local youth, particularly in technical training and skilled manufacturing roles.

In a major boost to defence manufacturing in eastern India, the Central government has granted in-principle approval for setting up a BrahMos missile manufacturing unit in Deoghar, Jharkhand.

The proposed facility is expected to significantly strengthen the state’s defence production ecosystem and position the region as a strategic industrial hub.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey informed that he had written to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on January 13, urging the establishment of a BrahMos unit in Deoghar. Following this request, the Ministry of Defence conveyed its in-principle approval for the project.

According to officials, nearly 300 acres of government land have already been identified in the Tilona area of Mohanpur block in Deoghar district.

The land was reportedly reserved for this purpose around eight years ago, paving the way for faster project execution once formal clearances are completed.

Experts believe that the establishment of the BrahMos Aerospace manufacturing unit could transform Deoghar into a key defence production centre not only for Jharkhand but for the entire eastern region of the country.

The move is expected to attract substantial industrial investment and strengthen ancillary sectors.

The project is also likely to generate significant employment opportunities for local youth, particularly in technical training and skilled manufacturing roles.

In addition, allied industries such as auto components, precision engineering, logistics and other support services are expected to expand, contributing to the development of a robust regional industrial ecosystem.

The initiative aligns with the Central government’s push for indigenous defence manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission. With the BrahMos missile system witnessing growing demand following its recent operational successes, the proposed unit in Deoghar is seen as a strategic step toward enhancing India’s domestic defence production capabilities.
