Chandrabhaga floods Rishikesh, SDRF rescues three people

As per the SDRF, the blockage was caused by a large tree falling ahead of PWD Tiraha. The team removed it and restored traffic. “The road got blocked due to a lot of debris near Lemon Tree Hotel, where the road is being opened with a JCB. The team is keeping an eye on all possible places,” the SDRF said.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rescued three people after the Chandrabhaga River in Rishikesh swelled on Tuesday morning following heavy rain. Water reached the highway, and officials urged residents to stay cautious near rivers and streams.

The SDRF team also cleared a road blocked by a fallen tree near Khara Srot in the Muni Ki Reti area of Tehri Garhwal district. Persistent rain had caused vehicles to get stuck in debris. The team reached the spot and helped vehicles pass safely.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday expressed concern over the damage to shops and hotels caused by heavy rainfall in Dehradun’s Sahastradhara area. He directed officials to expedite rescue and relief operations.

The torrential rains on Monday night caused the Sahastradhara river to overflow. The gushing waters carried debris into the main market, damaging several shops and hotels.

In a post on social media platform X, CM Dhami said, “Sad news has been received that some shops were damaged due to heavy rain at night in Sahastradhara, Dehradun. The administration, SDRF, and police are on the scene, engaged in relief and rescue operations. In this regard, I am in constant contact with the local administration and personally monitoring the situation. I pray to God for everyone's safety."
