After a three-day break, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Monday witnessed chaotic scenes as members of the ruling alliance accused the BJP of stealing votes during the Rajya Sabha elections held on Friday.
The issue of cross-voting in the Rajya Sabha polls echoed in the Assembly during the Question Hour. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of stealing four votes in the recent RS elections.
“Yesterday, you stole four votes. If I start speaking, no one will remain seated here. Let us allow a secret to remain a secret,” Choudhary said. He was furious over what had transpired in the election process. After the results were announced on Friday, the Deputy CM immediately accused the BJP of vote theft.
His comments drew a strong response from the opposition members, which then turned into a verbal spat. The NC legislators in the house chanted “vote chor” (vote stealers) slogans while the BJP protested the allegations.
Amid the chaos, Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone accused both the NC and BJP of collusion.
“It was match-fixing,” Lone alleged. He claimed that both sides were staging drama in the Assembly since whatever happened in the elections was a predetermined agreement between the two parties.
Earlier on Saturday, he alleged that NC had gifted seven MLAs to the BJP for the fourth seat in a mutually agreed settlement.
