The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy rain and gusty winds in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts of Uttarakhand for the next 36 hours. A yellow alert has also been issued for the remaining districts.
The MeT department said there is a chance of hailstorms and strong gusty winds in several parts of Uttarakhand during this period. Snowfall has also been predicted in areas located above 4,000 metres altitude.
It has also urged Char Dham devotees to travel only after checking the latest weather updates. The department has advised them to stay in safe places in case of bad weather conditions.
Maximum temperatures in Uttarakhand remained below normal in the past 24 hours, especially in the hills, where they were markedly below normal. While no significant change in temperature is expected over the next 48 to 72 hours, officials forecast a rise of 2-4 degrees Celsius thereafter.
Significant rainfall was recorded in the 24 hours till 8.30 am today, with Didihat receiving 29 mm and Chamoli recording 26.4 mm, whereas Dehradun recorded 9 mm of rain during this period.
Meanwhile, the MeT Department has predicted light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. People have been advised to avoid boating and farm work during this period.
